PROJECT MUSIC’s Alexa Cervantes accepted to Teaching Artists Training Institute

We are proud to share that PROJECT MUSIC’s very own Alexa Cervantes was nominated for and accepted to the Lab Cohort program through the Teaching Artists Training Institute.

From TATI:

“The Lab Cohort program is the signature training program of the Teaching Artists Training Institute, bringing together up to 60 Teaching Artists each year to learn, collaborate, and reflect on their teaching practice. Over the course of nine months, cohort members learn from expert clinicians in live zoom sessions on topics focused in Planning and Preparation, Instruction and Support, and Cultural Equity and Inclusion. Cohort members incorporate the newly learned tools and strategies into their classroom teaching, before convening with a small peer discussion group to discuss and reflect together.”

As a member of the Lab Cohort, Alexa has committed to a 9-month curriculum of regular lectures and discussions which will include 36 hours of live instruction and 18 hours of self-paced application. We are grateful to Alexa for investing her time to participate in this transformational training, which will directly benefit her work with PROJECT MUSIC students.

In order to be nominated, Cohort participants must demonstrate TATI Core Values including a passion for music for social change, a personal commitment to social justice, exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively. The PROJECT MUSIC community can attest that Alexa demonstrates these values and is a wonderful member of our team.

Beyond PROJECT MUSIC, Alexa is both an established educator and performer. Having graduated from the University of Connecticut, she teaches students of all ages in her private flute studio and also serves as the Assistant Music Teacher at Speak Music in Stamford. Her performance career has taken her to prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Yale’s Woolsey Hall, and Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. Alexa is also an active volunteer flutist with the Young Artists Philharmonic in Greenwich and regularly performs at events for the Greenwich Alliance’s Tuning In To Music program. Alexa is passionate about creating a positive and personalized learning experience for each student, aiming to foster both confidence and curiosity in every lesson.
